The Psychology of Hair Loss in Women

November 25, 2014

Hair loss. A term that was commonly associated with men is now increasingly affecting women all over the nation. Hair loss in women has become an increased issue ever since women began entering into a work force, which has also increasingly become fast paced in North America, adding additional stress to our lives. Additionally, the genetically modified and produced foods we consume are a major factor in improper diets, resulting in hair loss. In fact, it is reported in current statistics that half of the female population will incur some degree of excessive hair loss throughout their life.

Let us take a look at some interesting hair loss statistics.

* Hair loss in women affects roughly 50%.

* 60% of hair loss sufferers would rather have more hair than money or friends.

* More women are seeking methods of non-surgical hair restoration – up 31.8% between 2004 and 2008.

* Almost half (47%) of hair loss sufferers would spend their life savings to regain a full head of hair.

* Roughly a third (30%) of hair loss sufferers would give up sex if it meant they would get their hair back.

* Hair loss is the body issue that women feel would make them least attractive to men.

The degree of mental stress over hair loss is more than purely a mental state that affects your confidence. Studies now show that hair loss is more of an instinctual stress. One-study shows that upon first glance, there are a number of instinctual subconscious judgments  that others make about our genetics without even realizing it. A women with noticeable to extremely thinning hair can be subconsciously seen as genetically inferior. In today’s society we sometimes forget that we are a very instinctual species, and ultimately, hair and hair loss is an easy surface evaluation of genetic matching. It is a well-known fact that a woman’s hair is the essence of who they are. So much of our self-confidence depends on how are hair looks, so what happens if it begins to fall out and it won’t come back?

Up until recently, it seems the only remedy for hair loss in women was a thick, bulky wig, or mega expensive hair transplants. Many women with diffuse hair loss or naturally thin hair have turned to conventional hair extensions; however, not every woman with hair loss is a good candidate for conventional hair extensions, and many have been improperly suited to the wrong methods of installation for their individual hair type, which can result in further cuticle damage. Women who have fine, brittle, low density hair or hair loss issues should always steer clear of any methods which use adhesives, glues or solvents in the hair, as this greatly increases your chances of experiencing additional damage.

Instead, there are now progressive, new concept alternatives becoming socially acceptable and welcomed by women experiencing hair loss. Hair augmentation in the form of hair replacement services for hair loss sufferers are a non-surgical, long term remedy for women to replace the hair on the top of their head with zero damage to remaining cuticles. Virtually undetectable, hair replacement services are a 1 year investment that women wear full-time, and can wash, style and treat like natural hair. Finally, women have an instant solution to the hair loss that may otherwise cause them unwanted stress and anxiety, that stays on the head without damage or noticeability, and can be styled as normal in the head for up to 1 year per investment. Of course, hair replacement services are not plan A. Nobody ever wakes up feeling like a hair piece for no reason, unless they want to discreetly cover up pain that ails them.

It is the instance when we loose our hair that we finally realize how precious it is to us, and begin to feel the ailments of instinctual & psychological flaws. One might give anything at the chance to have it back.
